【Permanent Residence Admission Targets 2024 - 2026

Announced in the 2024-2026 Immigration Levels Plan on November 1, 2023, Canada aims to welcome 485,000 new permanent residents in 2024, and 500,000 new permanent residents in both 2025 and 2026. This 2024 target of 485,000 new immigrants to Canada amounts to 1.2% of Canada’s current population. By 2025, overall admissions will total nearly 1.3% of the Canadian population. The projected immigration targets follow the trajectory of the 2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan, with an aim to reach 500,000 permanent residents in 2025. In 2026, the Canadian government hopes to begin stabilizing immigration targets and recalibrating the number of temporary resident admissions to support sustainable and stable population growth.

【Economic Class Immigration Programs Targets 2024 - 2026】

Immigrants are essential to the future of the Canadian economy. Canada’s continued long-term focus is bringing in talent to spur innovation, support local businesses, and fill labor shortages for occupations in demand to grow the economy. This is reflected in the projected immigration targets under the economic class in the 2024-2026 Immigration Levels Plan. In 2024, the Government of Canada targets to admit 281,135 new permanent residents under Canada’s economic immigration programs (this is approximately 58% of the annual target). By 2025, over 60% of permanent resident admissions will be dedicated to the economic class.

The immigration targets under the Federal High Skilled category include the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class.

The immigration targets under the Federal Business category include the Start-Up Visa program and the Self-Employed Persons program.

【Family Class Immigration Programs Targets 2024 - 2026】

For 2024, the projected target for new permanent residence admissions under the family class is 114,000 immigrants. This accounts for 24% of the overall planned permanent residence admissions for 2024.

For spousal, partners, and children sponsorship programs, the target for 2024 is 82,000 permanent residence admissions. This target will rise to 84,000 permanent resident admissions in 2025 and 2026.

As for the Parents and Grandparents program, the Canadian government targets to admit 32,000 permanent residents under this stream in 2024. This target will rise to 34,000 in 2025 and 2026.
